THE South Korean Government have spent some P10 million for the shipment of the 2,400 tons of toxic wastes from Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental back to South Korea.

Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Northern Mindanao district collector John Simon said the amount is paid to the shipping line, which will transport the garbage.

Simon said they also accepted private contributions and welcomed volunteers to hasten the repacking of the garbage.

"Dugo, pawis at luha ang nangyari bago natin tuluyang naipalayas ang basura back to where it belongs," he added.

The last and second shipment will be on February, which will be shouldered again by the South Korean government.

"You can come up with all the laws, but you got to have honest people around kasi if there is an attempt to really bring in, makakapasok yan, we need to be vigilant and determined para maharang ang mga illegal shipments," Simon said.

Meanwhile, Misamis Oriental Provincial Board Member Gerardo Sabal said he is set to pass an ordinance to ensure that illegal wastes will not be dumped in the province again.

"Nakatuon kita ug ordinansa para ani and also we urge Phividec nga since ila ning area, makigbisog ug makig-cooperate unta sila nga ang mga investors nga ilang ma-invite dili molampas sa balaod, labina balaodnon sa kinaiyahan," Sabal said.
