CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno on Saturday, May 1, 2021, said there is no need for a stricter border control in the city as most of the new Covid-positive cases here are close contacts of previously confirmed cases.

"Most of them natakdan sa balay or sa ilang trabaho. Kanang mga gikan sa laing lugar, gabantay mana sad sila. Ang akong tan-aw, ang main culprit ani is ang pagkompyansa," Moreno said.

"Asa man ta kampante? Asa man ta likely magkompyansa? In the company of the people we love," he added.

Cagayan de Oro, for almost a week, recorded more than 20 new Covid-19 cases. As of 10 p.m. of April 30, the city logged 70 new local cases, of which 30 were local cases with link, eight were local authorized persons outside residence, 31 were local index cases, and one death.

According to Moreno, he received a suggestion to impose a curfew in the city to help prevent the further increase in the number of new Covid-19 cases.

"Okay man ko pero ang problema diha, diha man lagi sa balay ang spread," Moreno said.

"Diskarte nato na individually. Nakasabot ta sa quarantine pandemic. We are aware of that and its affects the thinking of people and even their behavior," he added.

The city mayor said the most effective tool to stop the growing number of new local Covid-positive cases is the strict observance of the minimum public health standards.
