CEBU CITY—At least two Oro female boxers made it to the finals of the 2018 Philippine National Games boxing event on Wednesday at the New Cebu Coliseum.

This, as Jema Baja and Elaide Pamisa both scored a stoppage against their respective semifinal opponents.

Baja, now a member of the Philippine boxing women’s team, beat Janine Hazel Dangod of Baguio City via referee stop contest in the first round of their youth women’s flyweight semifinal.

Same goes for Pamisa against Mary Nicole Llmas of host Cebu City in 1:56 minutes of the first round in youth women’s light flyweight semifinal.

However, only five of their male counterparts advanced to the semifinal round.

They were Sugar Rey Ocana, Mark Lester Durens, John Ignatius Macas, John Paul Panuayan and Jordge Nuez, who is also a member of the RP boxing men’s team.

Mark Lumbab, another Oro boxer and national team member, failed to reach the semis after losing to Reggie Suganob of Bohol via split decision in the Elite light flyweight quarterfinal.

All semifinal matches were still contested as of press time Thursday, May 24.

Meanwhile, the Oro’s volleybelles secured a spot in semifinal round of the 2018 Philippine National Games women’s indoor volleyball on Wednesday at the University of San Carlos main campus volleyball gym.

This, as the Oro lady spikers ruled bracket one with a clean 3-0 win-loss card.

They had defeated Bayawanan and Zamboanga earlier before besting Pagadian City, 3-1.

The Oro bets were still playing with the Makati City girls in the crossover round as of press time yesterday, even as the Oro males took the exit door after yielding to Cebu Province in two sets, 20-25 and 19-25.
