Alcantara, Thai partner in semis

Jaime Frias II

CAGAYAN de Oro City’s Francis Casey Alcantara and his Thai partner Sonchat Ratiwatana barged into the semifinal round of the US$15,000 F6 Thailand Futures doubles event on Wednesday, October 10.

This, after they disposed of the Japanese pair of Daisuke Sumizana and Shunrou Takeshima in two-straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

Alcantara and Ratiwatana, seeded no.1 in the tournament, will face the Russian duo of Shalva Dzhanashiya and Alexander Igoshin in the next round.

If they win against the Russians, they are on course of setting a final date against Alcantara’s former teammate Singh Kurunuday of India and his new partner Ajeet Rai of New Zealand, both seeded no.2.

But, it would not be easy for Kurunuday and Rai to climb as they take on the third seed Japanese pair of Soichiro Moritani and Jumpei Yamasaki.
