Ballpals now back at Palaro Center

Lynde Salgados

THE time-tested Ballpals club made a successful return at its original homecourt Pelaez Sports Center with Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday as its scheduled days (2:30 to 5 p.m.) for regular games.

However, its ongoing pre-Christmas inter-color tourney will be played today at the NHA covered court in brgy. Kauswagan, owing to the Palaro Center’s hosting of the 2018 Milo Little Olympics Mindanao Leg.

“Pasalamat kita’g dako sa Palaro management through its manager President ‘Zoren L’ Elipe sa iyang panugot nga makabalik kita sa Pelaez Sports Center. Memorable kaayo kini nga venue ilabi na sa mga karaan nga Ballpals so, lipay kaayo kita,” said Joven “Shimomae” Agudo, who negotiated the venue in the company of fellow past club president Dandan Guevarra, acting president Wengmark Mercado and games-in-charge Andit Mendoza.

Ballpals goes back to Pelaez Sports Center after the Barangay 24 covered court undergoes a major rehabilitation.

Team Wengmark had a 2-0 start in the pre-christmas tourney’s 40-up division after defeating Team Wyndell, 77-65 and Team Nestle, 77-71 with Kid Escobido, Balong Mabalot and Michael Pamisa consistently delivering a double-digit numbers.

Team Bongmark, Team Wyndell and the Blue Eagles were tied at 1-1 with Team Nestle still winless while waiting for starting center Jojo Mahistrado to shape up.

“Minor lang akong injury hopefully makabalik ko’g dula para makatabang sa team,” said Mahistrado, a former varsity player of the Cagayan de Oro College (COC) Scorpions.

Team Galanida seeks to exorcise the ghost of its forgettable stints in the last two seasons of the Ballpals hoopfest by posting a 2-0 record at the expense of Team Martinez, 57-52 and Team Penus, 78-74 (OT) in the 39-below division.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
