Cagayan de Oro students’ chessfest

YOUNG chess players in Cagayan de Oro City will have a grand time pitting wits anew in the Second Year Anniversary Chess Tournament of the Parent’s Chess Club on Saturday, October 12 at Green Lane 2nd Floor of Limketkai Mall.

“Bibo alegre kini nga anniversary games imbitado tanan nga mga school-based students in Cagayan de Oro including those from neighboring places sa pag-apil,” said Emmanuel “Mawe” Carrasco, one of the tournament coordinators.

Featuring categories for Grade 1-3, Grade 4-6 and Grade 7-12 boys and girls, the day-long rapid tourney carrying the theme “Build and Enrich your Child’s Character through Chess” will stake around P30,000 in total cash prizes plus trophies and medals.

The top-six winners in each category will receive P2,000, P1,700, P1,500, P1,200, P1,000 and P700, respectively.

The rest of the top-10 finishers will get P300 apiece.

As their humble way to salute the chess-loving parents for supporting chess development in the locality, top student-chessers from Corpus Christi School, Xavier University, City Central School and Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) will lead a huge number of participants in the Swiss system event with 30 minutes time control.
