Opol turns down Jasaan’s challenge in Kuyamis Sportsfest

Jaime Frias II

OPOL teams defended turf, beating the visiting Jasaan teams in the 2018 Kuyamis Sportsfest Basketball League Governor Yevgeny Emano Cup, over the weekend, at the Barra-Opol covered courts.

It was a thrilling escape for the Opol Dolphins in the 18-under division, dodging the Jasaan cagers’ counter blows via a 109-107 win.

The solid tandem of Jepoy Palagbas and John Castil propelled the Dolphins with 24 and 23 points, respectively.

From a 107-all deadlock, Castil nailed the victory sinking both freebies from the charity line after fishing a foul while driving to the hoops with four ticks left.

Jasaan tried to reverse it with a long jumper that apparently rimmed out.

JR Rivera collected 20 points for Jr. Jasaan, while Carl Dael came up with 18 markers.

The elder Dolphins, on the other hand, crushed Jasaan dribblers, 93-82 in the LGU division.

Jun Ocampo finished with 30 points for Opol, while Lowe Gamolo added 22.
