PASIG CITY -- The Cagayan de Oro City delegation bound for the 2018 National Batang Pinoy Games in Baguio City arrived safely in Manila, Thursday night, despite heightened weather alert issued by the state weather bureau.

But the delegation led by City sports coordinator Jaymar Rivera did not take risk in proceeding directly to the host city due to the weather warning.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astrononomical Services Administration (Pagasa) declared all of areas of Northern Luzon, including Baguio City under tropical storm warning signal number 3. It will make landfall on Saturday, September 15.

The delegation temporarily stayed at the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Philsports Complex in Pasig City while waiting for clearance from the weather bureau.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno also gave instruction to consult the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office headed by Verner Monsanto for further advice.

Delegations from Butuan City, Cebu City and Tagum City also did the same

Davao City and Davao del Norte contingents had reportedly cancelled their participations due to the incoming typhoon.

PSC chairman William “Butch” Ramirez said that Pagasa has advised that the delegations staying at the complex are safe to travel on Sunday to Baguio.

PSC has shouldered their meals until Sunday morning and will provide a bus per delegation.

Around 31 of 45 athletes from Team CdeO arrived on Thursday, while 14 others will catch up in time for the games.

The Batang Pinoy has cancelled the opening ceremony which was set on Saturday and will proceed with the games on Monday, September 17.
