Cebu recognizes families as ‘best tourists’

CEBU is among the 22 destinations around the world where locals rank families as the best tourists for their communities.

This is based on the May 2021 Airbnb Report on Travel and Living. Airbnb is an online marketplace that connects people who want to rent out their homes with people looking for accommodations.

According to Airbnb, “families are the most dynamic force in travel.” The company cited a 10,000-person survey across five countries that show more consumers (42 percent) being identified as “family-focused voyagers” than any other type of traveler.

“They have led the way in redistributing travel—from all the same places to everywhere, and in using homes for longer stays to live anywhere. And at a time when destinations are debating how they want travel to return, locals see families as the best type of tourists. Business travelers are rated lowest,” said Airbnb.

Other destinations with locals that also recognize families as best tourists include Australia, Austria, Bali, Budapest, Florence, France, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Italy, Jakarta, Manila, Mexico, Mexico City, Prague, Quintana Roo, Rome, Toronto, UK, US, Venice, and Vienna.

The same Airbnb report states that connecting with family is people’s top travel priority.

It also states that family travel accounts for an increasing share of overall nights, growing globally from 27 percent of nights booked in the summer of 2019 to 33 percent of nights booked in the summer of 2021.

Airbnb said that family travel to rural destinations is up from 32 percent of family nights in 2019 to 42 percent of family nights booked for the summer of 2021.

Also, it found out that beach towns and theme parks have replaced cities as top family summertime destinations. (NRC)
