BUILD, Build, Build temporarily out. Plant, Plant, Plant in.

To help communities sustain food security even under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), the Department of Agriculture (DA) boosted its efforts through the Plant, Plant, Plant.

The Plant, Plant, Plant program is the centerpiece initiative of the DA to ensure sustained food production and availability, food accessibility and affordability amidst the threats of Covid-19.

"DA will carry out these strategies to increase national agri-fishery output through the expansion of areas to be covered by government programs. The use of advanced and relevant technologies to increase levels of productivity across all commodities will also be intensified," the agency said in a press release.

In Central Visayas, DA-Central Visayas Director Salvador Diputado, urged households to develop their own home gardens.

"By having our own home garden, one need not to go out to buy food," he said.

On Wednesday, April 8, 2020, DA-Central Visayas distributed some vegetable seeds for the farmers and residents of Cebu City.

John Dennis Ranario, DA-Central Visayas High Value Crops Program (HVCDP) coordinator, said in a press release that vegetable seeds were already received by the Office of the City Agriculture which will be distributed to interested residents who wish to plant.

Veggie seeds received include bell pepper, okra, tomato, ampalaya, lettuce, pole sitaw, upland kangkong, eggplant, cucumber, upo, cauliflower, squash, and sugar peas.

Aside from the veggie seeds provided to the City, the DA-Central Visayas delivered 330 packs of veggies at the DA-Central Visayas Vaccine Laboratory on M. Velez St, Cebu City as a satellite distribution station.

This is in addition to the previous packs delivered Monday, April 6, 2020.

The distribution of the seeds is to encourage everyone to plant as source of food for the family.

For those who want to avail of seeds, just visit the Cebu City Agriculture Office or the Vaccine Laboratory of DA-Central Visayas on M. Velez St. Cebu City. (JOB with PR)
