THE Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu is requiring strict compliance on the disposal of leftover food.

This, as the Department of Agriculture (DA) 7 and other stakeholders prohibited swill feeding of hogs as a preventive measure against African Swine Fever (ASF).

HRRAC president Carlo Suarez said their haulers were given instructions to dispose of their food waste properly to prevent it from landing on backyard farms.

“All our members are aware of the total ban of pork from Luzon. Our members are coordinating with the Cebu Province about the listings of our suppliers. We complied with the inventory that was asked by the province,” Suarez said.

He said they are not selling their swill to the backyard farmers and only accredited haulers can pick up their swill and dispose of it accordingly.

“We dispose of the swill to our material recovery facilities and our haulers would be the ones to get it from us. We are in full support of the government’s on the 100-day pork ban,” he said.

Suarez said they are now sourcing their pork from local suppliers that have proper documents and permits.

The group is also on the lookout for any price increases in pork products.

“We will report any price increase caused by this ASF. HRRAC and the province of Cebu are working together to support the local ban,” Suarez said.

Central Visayas Pork Producers Cooperative president Nonon Tambago said they are ready to supply the HRRAC with pork.

“The local producers can supply as long as they will reach out to us because these hotels have specialized cut requirements. We want them to be our partner,” said Tambago, who is the president of Virginia Farms.
