CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella will strictly implement the provision of Urban Development and Housing Act (UDHA) that collects a number of percentage to the developer of condominiums and subdivisions in Cebu City.

According to Labella, there is a provision in the law mandating land developers to give five percent share to the Local Government Unit in order construct condominium and 20 percent for subdivisions.

“If only the five percent for condominiums and 20 percent for subdivisions were implemented religiously we could have built houses for the homeless and under privilege families. We have to do it now and not later” said Labella.

The mayor issued the statement during the ground breaking ceremony in Barangay Lorega San Miguel on Friday, Sept. 13, 2019.

The P230 million medium rise building is for the homeless and under privilege families.

The five story structure will stand in a 1,800 square meter property that can accommodate at least 200 families.

“That is the trust now of our administration, provide home for the homeless and in order to do that we will see to it that developers in the city will comply and deposit the percentage of social housing component before giving them development permits.” added Labella

The mayor plans to call a meeting to all condominium and subdivision developers to formally inform them of his administration’s intentions.

Labella said he will have Councilor Raymund Garcia sponsor an ordinance in the City Council that will stipulate that the government’s share in the land development should be deposited first before any development permit is released. (PAC/RSR)
