A kind legacy of the 'Mean Girls'

Christian Jay B. Quilo

FOR those who are wondering why Oct. 3 is Mean Girls Day: In a classroom scene, Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett) asks Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan), who was seated behind him, “What day is it?” to which she replies, “It’s October 3rd.”

Unofficially, fans decided that this would be the perfect day to commemorate the classic high school film.

If you want to get in with this fun little celebration, here are a handful of ways you can join in on the fun—no actual mean girls included, of course!

Wear pink, natch. This year, Oct. 3 happens to fall on a Wednesday. Coincidence? I think not. So scour through your wardrobe and whip out a pink piece or two for your OOTD.

Try on some costumes for Halloween with your friends. You can go the Cady route with a hyper-realistic zombie bride look or a fresh iteration of Regina’s bunny look.

Watch the film again with your friends. Grab the Regina, Gretchen and Karen to your Cady and enjoy a dose of nostalgia. Don’t forget the popcorn!

Start a Burn Book but make it a positive one. Instead of writing mean stuff, write good things about people you love instead! And maybe you should call it something else—the Bright Book, perhaps?

Get cheese fries. If Regina can ditch her diet for a day and indulge in a little greasy cheesy treat, surely you can too!

Spend some time with your cool mom. Show some appreciation to the pink tracksuit-wearing Amy Poehler in your life who always looks out for you. Get a cocktail or two with mom—yes, during the day if you want.

Say fetch and give out compliments today using it! Tell your friend, your sister, your co- worker, whoever: “You look fetch!” Use the word until you get sick of hearing it.

Practice the choreography for Jingle Bell Rock for your upcoming Christmas party. Fur-trimmed tube tops, red latex mini skirts and black knee-high boots are optional.

“That’s why her hair is so big. It’s full of secrets,” Damian comments on Regina’s hair. Freshen up your mane, go solo or bring a friend or two who’s game! A head full of secrets? A trusted hairstylist, honey—that’s my only secret.

Eat at your communal dining area, whether it’s at the school cafeteria or at the office pantry. “Share a table, win a friend.” Because in this case, you CAN sit with us—always.
