Espina: 72 years of USJ-R

Mila C. Espina

FROM 1947 to 2019, then Colegio, now University of San Jose-Recoletos, has become one of the leading and stable universities in the Philippines.

Yes! Here’s to 72 years of promoting Quality Christian Community Oriented Education, moving forward—Adelante, Tatak Recoleto—across global connections, with a sterling roster of bar and board topnotchers, awards, international linkages and successful alumni and highly qualified faculty.

The University had been expanded in Basak and Balamban. Modern structures rose with high-tech facilities and instructional resources. In the Basak campus, added to the IT building and St. Ezekiel Chapel, are the new high school buildings to accommodate the K-12 students, complete with library and media resources, audio-visual rooms, physical education, scouting and Tesda facilitating courses/fixtures.

The Main Campus has refurbished fully air-conditioned rooms, speech labs, CPA and Moot courts, clinic and security offices, complete with emergency buses and related health equipment, broadcast media rooms, a mini hotel replete with all fixtures; Tourism office with IATA connections, high-tech conference rooms, vast library and instructional media resources, state-of-the-art student and external affairs, counseling and publication offices, chapel and administration, deans’ faculty, research and service rooms, among so many others.

All these concretize the thrust of the USJ-R and the vision of the OAR community.

Yes, 72 years. I spent 55 in USJ-R, and still counting. The Recoletos community has been my home. The university continues to spearhead curricular and co-curricular, as well as international linkages, under the current administration led by Father president Cristopher Maspara, OAR.
