Espina: The zealous Zontians

Mila C. Espina

THE Zonta Club of Cebu 1 wrapped up its 2018-2019 projects and will prepare for 2019-2020.

Major partner for these activities was Benedicto College, through its Z Club and performing arts.

The Centennial Walk held last Nov. 9 gathered a huge number of Zonta 1 and 2 members, with their partners, to celebrate 100 years of Zonta International’s advocacy “Gender Equality: No to Violence Against Women,” and other related concerns.

Last Nov. 26, the first day of “Days of Activism” was launched in the 888 Forum—which was replayed in Channel 30—then launched “live” at Ayala Center Cebu with some 600 plus faculty members, students, barangay leaders and industry partners, led by Benedicto College and Ayala. The event featured video clips by the University of San Jose-Recoletos’ Graduate School, conferment of Appreciation Awards on partners GMA 7, 888 Forum and Budlaan, a talk on “Violence Against Women (VAW)” by lawyer Michelle Palmares, and the launch of the Zonta VAW Advocacy Chocolate by Zontian Linda Binghay.

On Nov. 29, the One Stop Consultation and Service was held with partner GMA 7 at Labangon, Cebu City chaired by Zontian Melita Go; Project of Service and PR Information Networking. Then on Dec. 11, Zonta 1 had the Speechfest on VAW and turnover of the library and Instructional Resources at its adopted school, Tulay National High School, chaired by Zontian Matt Baguia and Zontian Rufina Tanchan.

The 16 “Days of Activism” ended on Dec. 12 with an interactive evaluation of the past events, and plans for the 2020 hosting of the Feb. 21-22, 2020 Area Convention.
