Fields of Hope: Vintage Dreams

Monica R. Lopez

EVERY October, the world shines bright in pink as a show of support for “Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” Joining the rest of the world is Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, with its lineup of pink promos for the month of October.

Last Oct. 12, Waterfront Cebu, together with iCanServe Foundation Inc., OroChina, ClothesforLife Inc. and Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente, presented “Fields of Hope.” Held at the hotel’s Pacific Grand Ballroom, the charity fashion show featured the 2019 Holiday Collection of renowned fashion designer Jun Escario.

On behalf of the team, Waterfront Cebu general manager Anders Hallden expressed his gratitude to the continued support of the guests, including Escario and iCanServe Foundation Inc.’s Mary Anne Alcordo-Solomon—who walked the runway together with other breast cancer advocates and survivors—together with the top models in the city.

Everybody wore Escario’s designs on a pink runway festooned with flowers. Fifty collections were showcased, each evoking that undeniable air of femininity and romance. Escario took inspiration from the strong women of the ‘50s and the ‘60s for his designs.

“It was an honor to design,” said Escario. “To be able to reach out and help these strong women is a chance to give back and give hope to those fighting the illness, especially to my loved ones who are battling.”

Guests that night were not only treated to a culinary feast and a marvelous fashion show but also had the chance to help: Proceeds from “Fields of Hope” will be handed to the beneficiaries of ClothesForLife Inc.
