Little Taiwan in Cebu

Monica R. Lopez

TAIWAN is one of the most frequented destinations in Asia for a lot of reasons: to see the sights, enjoy its delicacies, to shop or learn the culture. It has everything to keep its visitors intrigued.

Cebuanos got to experience a bit of it through the “Taiwan Small Town & DIY Promotion Fair” last May 18 at the New Wing of Ayala Center Cebu. The fair is part of a campaign to engage with locals and have them experience Taiwan through fun activities.

The all-day event provided locals with a fun introduction to Taiwan through a series of activities: the ring toss, bean bag and stand bottle games; DIY (Do It Yourself) sessions making paper umbrellas and sky lanterns; a pearl milk tea drinking contest, as well as a chance to win prizes including a trip to Taiwan. Participants were also given pamphlets about all there is to know about Taiwan, from its sites to its dining spots.

Although Taiwan’s a plane ride away, people were able to enjoy a day experiencing what’s in store for future visitors.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
