Makeup inspo: Nadine Lustre

Joanna Cuenco

I WATCHED the movie “Ulan” last weekend even though I’d never seen any trailers or heard anything about it prior. I was pleasantly surprised that it is not the typical Tagalog love story, and both Nadine Lustre and Carlo Aquino played their roles well and didn’t overact.

Of course, I couldn’t help but notice how Nadine’s skin and brows were flawless even with minimal makeup and shooting in HD. She looks great with either barely-there makeup or full-blown glam. Here are some of her makeup looks and some inspo we can take from them:

Drunk blush

Nadine’s drunk blush look launched a hundred YouTube tutorials among Pinay vloggers. The blush across the cheeks and nose is noticeable, but just enough to look fresh and not painfully sunburned. Get the look with a peachy-pink cream blush dabbed and blended on the apples of the cheeks and across the nose. If you are a makeup master, try a shade of red or deeper pink. Just add a little product at a time to control the intensity and carefully blend each layer. Sweep illuminating powder or highlighter on top of the blush so that the effect is dewy, not irritated.

Faux freckles

Fake freckles have been trendy the past couple of years, and they lend a young and innocent feel, like a kid who’s been frolicking in the sun without enough SPF. Faux freckles are easy; just use a medium brown eyebrow pencil (as eyeliner may be too intense) and dot across the cheeks and nose. This look on Nadine is made more glamorous with individual false eyelashes and a glossy lip.

Smoke and shimmer

This full-on glam makeup will take some skill to apply, but if you don’t want to spend half an hour trying to perfect this smokey eye, you can still take a few beauty notes from this look. Some pair a really intense eye look with a super nude lip, but I prefer this kind of nude with just a hint of color. Subtle blush or very light bronzer will add definition to the cheeks without overwhelming the overall look, while highlighter on the very tops of the cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, and on the cupid’s bow ties in the full dramatic effect without adding more color to the face.
