Practical travel packing tips

Monica R. Lopez

IT’S the holiday season. By now, most of us are glued to our computers booking flights to cities or countries together with friends or family and possibly ticking off one or two things on our bucket list. Part of the adventure involves packing for the trip. To some it’s easy, for others it’s a cause for stress, especially when they hit the conundrum “A closet full of clothes; nothing to wear.” Here are a few tips to help narrow down things when it comes to packing.

Take note of the weather

Traveling involves a lot of exploring, and sometimes plans don’t go the way we want it. You might end up getting stranded somewhere sweating or freezing, depending on where you are. Flitting from one place to another is uncomfortable enough so keep track of the place’s weather conditions.

Be mindful of the culture

As much as we would like to be extra with our looks, there are some places where dress codes are really strict. Sorry but #DareToBare can’t be #goals for when you’re in sacred spaces, like temples for instance. Do some research and make note. This is also your way of showing respect of the place’s traditions.

Pack the essentials

When we say essentials, we mean the basic clothing items that are so essential it will never let you down: a simple top which can go with anything, a pair of durable jeans, a watch, bag and those trusty pair of sneakers for those long hours of touring. Though this may be the most obvious tip, this is something some people forget. It is crucial because there’s going to be a lot of movement. From there, glam up the look by adding some favorite and fun pieces to spice things up. But always leave a bit of room for the shopping spree.

Bring more than a pair of good shoes

With all the walking around, our feet are the ones who are going to need the most TLC, so it’s better to alternate shoes in case the one you’re wearing is giving you blisters. Also where you’re going, you want to shop for shoes because they’re pretty and on sale—not because the one you’re wearing is destroyed from all the walking.

Bring something semi-formal

Whether you’re on a guided tour or doing it DIY style, the mood to hit up a bar or a fancy restaurant might strike—or there is a place on the itinerary that calls for a more formal look. Whether or not you’ll get to use it, it’s better to pack one in order to be prepared.
