Sometime ago, Zonta Club of Cebu 2 donated a much-needed sound system to the Cebu City Public Library, where the club maintains a reading corner for barangay kids.

It was an answered prayer, and much appreciated by chief librarian Ruth Chua, who thanked past club president Myrna Cruz Tan and her group.

Emergencies occur anytime, anywhere, and when this happens, Zontians can be depended upon to assist in the procurement and distribution of relief goods.

One such fire emergency engulfed several houses in Barangay Alang-Alang in Mandaue City, sending residents scampering for safety. The Zontians did not disappoint and were there to help.

Very timely during this Covid-19 pandemic is the club’s donation to Gasa sa Gugma, a home for elderly, destitute and dying patients who have been neglected and rejected by their families.

Over the years, club members have appreciated the sanitized and livable surroundings maintained by the dedicated Sisters of Charity of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

Zontian group leader Evelyn Ramas found a way to secure house cleaning items, detergents, diapers etc., while another member, Jennifer Go, shared two new wheelchairs.

For the past 12 years, Zontian Mariter Klepp has directed this activity which consists of small groups who quarterly visit the facility to provide haircut services to the residents. However, due to the present situation, even barbers had to stay home.

Realizing this, Zonta 2 Biennium 2020-2022 president Elena C. Young decided that in spite of the limited movement and health protocols, the club must deliver its prepared donation. And so it did!

Congratulations, Elena, for such an auspicious start to your Biennium term!
