Weekend of poetry, live music over at Books and Brews, Handuraw Pizza

THIS Nov. 24, Saturday, the Stray Poets Collective will be celebrating its first anniversary at Books and Brews Cafe, Mango Square Mall. The group of poets and storytellers will be hosting an entire night of poetry readings, spoken word stories, special musical performances and other surprises.

Guests present will not only be treated to a fun night but will also have the opportunity to help a good cause. The event supports YLC BeyondBooks Programs, which helps promote children’s literacy. The hosts are asking for donations of old/secondhand children’s books which will be given to the beneficiaries of YLC. Admission is free.

Also on Nov. 24, at Handuraw Pizza White Gold branch, is the highly anticipated album launch of band The Family is Under Attack. The rock band’s record “South of the North Star” by Melt Records will be available in the venue that night and joining the party are bands Mural, Bottle Rocket and Drop Out Club. Event starts at 8 p.m. and admission is free.

Finally, on Nov. 25, Sunday, a poetry reading / open mic event will be hosted by Hablon and Handuraw Pizza. The event, dubbed “Anino,” invites lovers of poetry to gather for a night of reading and singing. Guests are encouraged to bring with them their poems to share to the audience. Musicians are also invited to share their songs, and are encouraged to bring their own musical instruments along with them.

“Anino” this Sunday night is at Handuraw Pizza Mango branch from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
