Welcome, Consul General Jia Li

Chinggay V. Utzurrum

CEBU has a new Consul General from the People’s Republic of China (PROC). Consul General Jia Li, welcome to Cebu!

At a well- attended formal reception at the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu, Consul Li was warmly applauded as he gave his welcome remarks. In so many words, Consul Li reminded us that China and the Philippines are good neighbors, facing each other across the sea, with similar geography, blood and culture. Today, many Filipinos have Chinese blood, a testimony to the deep friendship of the two countries.

The Philippines-China relations has entered a new historical period with the state visit last week of President Xi Jinping to the Philippines—a complete success! This has been the first state visit to our country by a Chinese president in the past 13 years! One of the visit’s highlights was the signing of 29 documents, including the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation on the Belt and Road initiative.

In closing, let us wish that the friendship between our two countries will last forever.
