ADDITIONAL modern jeepneys will ply the Barangay Inayawan-Colon Street route in Cebu City starting Friday, Jan. 28, 2022.

This, after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Central Visayas (LTFRB 7) gave its approval to the Inayawan Transport Services Cooperative to deploy 10 additional modern jeepneys.

During the launching ceremony on Friday, a provisional authority to operate will be given to the cooperative, LTFRB 7 Director Eduardo Montealto Jr. told SunStar Cebu on Wednesday, Jan. 26.

Montealto said there are currently five modern jeepneys plying the route.

Montealto said the additional modern public utility vehicles (MPUV) will augment the existing 888 MPUV units in Metro Cebu.

However, Metro Cebu still needs to have 3,000 units of MPUV in order to achieve full modernization and to solve the high demand for public transportation, especially during rush hour, said Montealto.

Montealto urged local government units to help them in enforcing the 70 percent maximum capacity for public transport amid the rising cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Cebu.
