THIRTEEN men were arrested by operatives of the Talisay City Police Station for organizing a boxing match amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Sitio Kilawan, Barangay Tanke on Saturday, May 2, 2020.

Of the number, eight were minors between the ages of 15 and 17. A much younger child was turned over to his parents by the police.

Maj. Gerard Ace Pelare, Talisay City Police Station chief, said they immediately went to the area after learning about the boxing match through Facebook.

The men were nabbed after the cops caught them in the act.

A few participants tried to escape, but the operatives were able to arrest them.

Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas Jr. met the arrested individuals to discuss what happened.

Gullas has asked barangay officials to help the City Government and the Talisay City Police Station uphold ECQ protocols.

“Let us all cooperate and do our part in this time of crisis in Talisay. By organizing that event, they violated rules,” Gullas said in Cebuano.

Charges will be filed against those who were nabbed for violating ECQ protocol in relation to Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code.

The violators are now in police custody. (JCT, RTF)
