THE Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) is looking into the killing of two men in Brgy. Alambijud in the southern town of Argao, Cebu on Thursday, April 2, 2020.

The victims were Renato Sotto Evangelista, a resident of Brgy. Labogon, Mandaue City and Dexter Romano, a native of Bohol province.

They died after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

CPPO Director Col. Roderick Mariano said they are looking into personal grudge as a possible motive.

“Personal grudge is eyed because out of the five people in the area, why did the perpetrators shoot only these two men and spare the rest?” Mariano said in Tagalog.

As of this writing, the Argao Police Station has yet to give the complete details on the persons of interest who will be summoned for an investigation on the matter.

Mariano, though, confirmed that the victims were tagged as persons under monitoring for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

He said they had a history of travel to Mandaue City where two cases of the Covid-19 were recorded as of April 2, 2020.

This, however, does not mean that the victims were identified as carriers of the coronavirus, Mariano said.

Initial investigation showed that the victims left for Argao to be with their relatives during the province-wide enhanced community quarantine.

In a separate interview, Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Brig. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro has ordered the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 7 to help in the investigation.

He said he will wait for the investigation report from the CPPO first before the PRO 7 begins its probe. (AYB, RTF)
