NUMEROUS local government units (LGUs) in Cebu have received thousands of hog cholera vaccines from the Cebu Provincial Government.

Since the immunization campaign began on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, 65,040 vaccine doses have been administered in 24 LGUs in Cebu, according to Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Mary Rose Vincoy.

According to Vincoy, the Capitol plans to provide more hog immunizations this week or next week.

“This is to protect sa remaining population sa atong (pigs) and make their immune system more adoptable to other diseases as well,” Vincoy stated.

The hog cholera vaccines will be given for free based on the swine population of every LGU.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said commercial farms are currently implementing biosecurity measures, which is why backyard farms are being given more attention.

Currently, there are 442,422 pigs in Cebu, of which 62 percent come from backyard farms and 28 percent from commercial farms. (ANV, TPT)
