AUTHORITIES have scoured the seas off northern Cebu in the past two days, going after fishermen who used explosives and other prohibited fishing tools.

The operatives, led by Police Regional Office 7 Director Debold Sinas, arrested 25 persons and confiscated several prohibited fishing devices, including dynamites.

At 12 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, police served seven search warrants and conducted 16 seaborne patrols, resulting in the arrest of 13 illegal fishers, two persons possessing explosives and two violators of a municipal ordinance that bans non-residents from fishing.

Operatives seized two dynamites, a hand grenade, a gun, 25 kilos of ammonium nitrate (an ingredient in making dynamite) and fishing equipment.

On Saturday, Nov. 10, five persons were also arrested. (KAL)
