FIVE fishermen were rescued by personnel of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Daanbantanyan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) in Daanbantayan, Cebu.

Victor Tancawan, DRRMO head, said Jessie Naraja, 41, and Pedro Lagahit, 55, were rescued off Barangay Tapilon Monday night, September 6, after their pump boat broke and the engine stopped working.

Eustekio Canillo Jr., 42, and Francisco Canillo, 35, were rescued in Barangay Maya at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, September 7.

The fifth person, Marcos Dejicos Sr., was rescued in Barangay Malbago around 11 a.m. Tuesday. He went into fishing Monday night but his boat was damaged due to big waves and strong winds.

Tancawan said they issued advisories to the barangays to take preventive measures due to bad weather even before Jolina became a tropical cyclone, but the fishermen still went out to provide food for their family. (MVE)
