67,000 kilos of garbage collected in Cebu City during cleanup drive

A TOTAL of 67,940 kilos of garbage were collected during the city-wide clean up drive in 21 major riverside and coastal areas in Cebu City Saturday, September 18, 2021.

Reymar Hijara, the subcommittee chairperson for the Cebu City Coastal Management Task Force (CMTF), told reporters that 27,150 kilos were collected from south barangays and 36,490 kilos from the north barangays.

The Department of Public Services (DPS) collected 4,300 kilos.

Around 3,800 volunteers from 80 barangays, private companies, civic groups, national agencies and city government employees participated in the clean up drive.

Hijara said that 50 percent of the garbage was composed of wood, plants, and mud, 40 percent of the garbage were plastics while 10 percent were residuals.

Hijara said that most of the heavy equipment was deployed in Barangays Tejero and Carreta for the dredging of the rivers. (MVE)
