7 traffic personnel test positive for drugs

SEVEN personnel of the Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System (CTMS) have tested positive for drug use during a surprise test on Monday morning, Sept. 23, 2019.

Another CTMS employee went home after he refused to give his urine sample. He even asked his co-worker to pass the latter’s sample as his.

Two other personnel will be scheduled to go through another drug test because they were absent last Monday.

The City of Lapu-Lapu Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (C-Losap) conducted the drug test.

Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan promised to dismiss the CTMS employees who were caught using illegal drugs, but he has to wait for the results of the confirmatory tests.

The employees, he said, have the option to go through a drug rehabilitation program that will be conducted in a facility run by the C-Losap or in barangay-based rehabilitation sites.

“I have given them a chance to work for their families, but they threw their opportunities away,” Chan said in Cebuano.

The mayor ordered the C-Losap to conduct a surprise drug test on the CTMS personnel because he wants the City Hall employees to be worthy of the public’s trust.

“One is not in his right mindset if he is a user. That’s when extortion activities start. If you are a user, you would find a way to earn extra money,” Chan said. FROM GCM OF SUPERBALITA CEBU / RSR
