A SEPTUAGENARIAN was shot in the neck while he was sleeping in his hut in Sitio Langub, Barangay Sayao in the southern town of Sibonga, Cebu on Monday night, September 5, 2022.

The victim, a 74-year-old married farmer, was identified as Florencio Torres Alcomendras.

His gunman remains unidentified.

Major Rodgene Fudotan, chief of the Sibonga Police Station, said the incident happened around 7 p.m.

Based on their initial investigation, the perpetrator slipped the barrel of his gun through the curtain window and aimed at the victim who was fast asleep.

When he fired, the bullet entered Alcomendras’ neck and exited the latter’s body.

Despite his injury, the victim managed to get up and run for help, which must have rattled the gunman because he fled the scene in a hurry and left behind his cellphone.

Fodutan said they will use the cellphone to identify the gunman.

According to Fudotan, rumors have it that the victim tampered with the crops of other farmers in the area. (GPL)
