Alcoy town mayor tests positive for Covid-19

ALCOY, southern Cebu Mayor Michael Angelo Sestoso was found positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2020.

The Municipality’s public information office (PIO) confirmed the matter on its official Facebook post.

In its post, the Alcoy PIO said Sestoso immediately sought for a swab test after he started showing symptoms of Covid-19 a few days ago.

As of Aug. 23, Sestoso and his close contacts are in isolation.

The mayor’s close contacts are also awaiting the results of their swab tests.

Aside from Sestoso, a 53-year-old resident of Brgy. Poblacion and a 25-year-old resident of Brgy. Daanlungsod in Alcoy were also found positive for Covid-19 on the same day.

As of Aug. 23, the number of Covid-19 cases in Alcoy has risen to 21.

Due to this, local officials have urged residents in Alcoy to strictly follow health protocol to avoid getting infected with Covid-19.

Sestoso is the seventh mayor in Cebu who tested positive for Covid-19.

Other mayors who were found positive for Covid-19 are Asturias Mayor Jose Antonio Pintor, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan, Daanbantayan Mayor Sun Shimura, Barili Mayor Marlon Garcia, Tuburan Mayor Danilo Diamante and San Fernando Mayor Lakambini Reluya.

Except for Pintor and Sestoso, most of the Cebu mayors have recovered from Covid-19. (ANV)
