FORMER lawyer and Doce-Pares grandmaster Dionesio Cañete was arrested by police at his office in a private subdivision in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, by virtue of an arrest warrant for two counts of cyberlibel filed against him.

Operatives of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit- Central Visayas (Racu 7) arrested Cañete, 81, at his office in Santo Niño Village in Barangay Banilad at 1 p.m. on Tuesday after Regional Trial Court Branch 11 Judge Ramon Daomilas Jr. issued an arrest warrant against him.

The arrest warrant against Cañete stemmed from a libel complaint filed by a prosecutor under the Cebu City Prosecutor's Office over the arnis grandmaster's alleged malicious comments that he posted on Facebook.

SunStar Cebu has yet to secure a copy of the complaint against Cañete.

Daomilas has set a P60,000 bond, or P30,000 for each count, for Cañete's temporary freedom. (SunStar Cebu)
