Barangay captain killed, cousin wounded in Compostela ambush

A BARANGAY captain was killed, while his cousin was wounded in an ambush in Barangay Tag-ubi, a mountainous village in Compostela, Cebu Thursday afternoon, September 16, 2021.

The fatality was identified as Junry Aligato, 40, chief of Barangay Kalawangan, Asturias, Cebu.

Wounded was Aligato’s cousin who was identified as Medjo Aligato, a barangay tanod (watchman).

The ambush happened at 1:15 p.m. Thursday.

Initial investigation conducted by Compostela police revealed that Junry and Medjo were on their way to Asturias from Cebu City when the attack happened.

They were waylaid by motorcycle-riding gunmen upon reaching mountainous area of Compostela.

The victims were rushed to a private hospital in Cebu City, but the barangay captain died while on transit. (GPL)
