A BARANGAY councilor was killed after having been hit by a motorcycle at 5:40 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, in Brgy. Dawis Norte, Carmen town.

Patrick Escoton, 44, a barangay councilor in that barangay, was declared dead on arrival when he was brought to a hospital in Danao.

Jehan Basan Quinaquin, 27, who was driving the motorcycle, is also in critical condition.

Quinaquin remains unconscious and is still in the hospital.

In an interview with SunStar Superbalita Cebu, Police Master Sgt. Edmund Sumalinog, Carmen Police Station investigator, said the barangay councilor was trying to get to the other side of the road.

Escoton was supposed to have breakfast as he was about to join their barangay’s cleanup drive.

The victim did not notice the motorcyle speeding toward him.

Due to the impact, the victim fell on the road and his head hit the concrete.

According to Sumalinog, Quinaquin just came from the wake of his sibling in Brgy. Fuente, Carmen at the time. (GPL / CCP)
