THROUGH its Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program, the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA BFAR) granted one unit of tilapia floating cage and 10,000 tilapia fingerlings to the Bongbong Tree Planters Association (BTPA) in Ubay town, Bohol.

The new floating cage, which cost more than P100,000, is an addition to an existing unit given in 2019. The fingerlings were sourced out from Clarin Freshwater Fish Farm, a BFAR 7 facility in Clarin town, Bohol.

The group also received fish feeds sufficient for the entire cycle in rearing tilapia.

From this grant, the 70-member BTPA is expected to harvest about 900 kilograms of grown tilapia from the 5,000 fingerlings stocked inside the old floating cage.
