Boy assumes seat as ‘little mayor’

LEADING a highly-urbanized City like Cebu may be daunting, but Grade 12 student Neil John Ashley Flores is ready to accept the challenge.

As president of the Talamban National High School Supreme Student Government (SSG), Flores said it is an honor and privilege to be elected as “little” mayor.

Close to 50 SSG presidents from different public and private schools elected temporary counterparts of elected and appointed City Government officials last Aug. 6.

“It was unexpected but it will help me big time as a youth leader. SSG is modelled after the City Government,” Flores said.

Flores and his vice mayor Daniel Macorda of the Regino Mercado Memorial National High School along with the other elected little councilors and department heads took their oath of office before Mayor Tomas Osmeña yesterday.

Today they will have an educational tour and briefing on City Hall programs such as the Long Life Medical Assistance Program, Cebu City Public Library and Operation Second Chance Center in Barangay Kalunasan, among others.

Flores will temporarily assume post as local chief executive on Thursday to observe the conduct of Mayor Osmeña’s business. (RTF)
