The program will only accept poor but deserving senior high school students who graduated with honors from public schools and who have been accepted at the Cebu Normal University (CNU) or the Cebu Technological University (CTU).

Aside from providing free tuition, the program will also provide a monthly allowance to scholars, said Julius Chua, Peso labor and employment officer.

Those who graduated with highest honor will receive P2,000 a month, he said, while those who graduated with high honor will get P1,500 a month.

Scholars can choose any course offered by the CNU and the CTU.

Interested applicants must bring a certificate of moral character, a grade card, a certificate signed by the principal that they finished Grade 12 with highest or high honor, an income tax return showing that their parent’s combined annual income does not exceed P100,000, a certification from the Bureau of Internal Revenue for the Tax Payment Exemption and proof that they are enrolled either at the CNU or CTU main or extension campuses.

The deadline for acceptance of applications is Aug. 31.

Chua said scholars must maintain an average grade of 95.

He said successful applicants can also avail themselves of summer jobs in private companies participating in the scholarship program and earn a daily wage of P386. (FROM SCG OF SUPERBALITA CEBU / PJB)
