CEBU City had logged 573 fresh cases as of Sunday, January 23, 2022, bringing the active cases to 7,370 in 77 barangays.

The city's daily positivity rate (DPR) stood at 51.07 percent from 1,122 individuals tested, according to the City Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Cebu City recorded Friday, January 21 a 56.62 DPR, the highest since the pandemic hit the city in March 2020.

The DPR dropped to 50.97 on Saturday, January 22.

Despite the decrease in DPR on Saturday and Sunday, EOC deputy chief implementer City Councilor Joel Garganera could not paint a rosy picture.

"The daily positivity rate is still high at 50 percent plus. So it's too early to tell of this surge if we have already reached our peak or if cases are really slowing down. We just have to be more compliant with our health protocol and learned to coexist and live safely with Covid," he told reporters on Monday, January 24.

According to the World Health Organization, one of the indicators that the epidemic is controlled is by having a positivity rate of less than five percent for the last two weeks. Positivity rate or percent positive is the percentage of all coronavirus tests performed that come out positive.

As of January 23, Cebu City had also logged 312 recoveries and two deaths, raising the total number of deaths this month to 26. (KAL)
