Cebu City Comelec moves voters’ registration to mall

THE Cebu City offices of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) have transferred their registration of voters for the May 11, 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections to Robinsons Galleria Cebu on Friday, Sept. 27, 2019.

The offsite registration at the mall in the North Reclamation Area in Cebu City will end on Monday, Sept. 30.

Lawyer Marchel Sarno, North District election officer, said they relocated the registration to a mall because it has a bigger space, and he is expecting an influx of applicants.

The Comelec offices in the city cannot accommodate a large crowd, he said.

Since the start of the registration last Aug. 1, Sarno said his office has been catering to 800-1,000 applicants per day. Four data-capturing machines are used by the Comelec personnel.

The registration of voters for north district residents is on the second floor, while that of south district residents is on the third floor.

Applicants must bring valid identification cards or birth certificates to prove they are at least 18 years old. (from PAC of Superbalita Cebu/KAL)
