Cebu City implements smaller-scale lockdowns

A TOTAL of 356 households and workplaces in Cebu City were placed on granular lockdown on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020.

Since the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force (RIATF) lifted the granular lockdown in six areas in the city on Thursday, Aug. 13, there hasn’t been any compound or sitio-wide lockdown, according to City Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Garganera said the EOC is looking at locking down a household or an office or a certain floor of a building where a worker tests positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to prevent the virus from spreading.

“For the last months or so, we have been concentrating on the community. That’s why we have the granular and we have a household lockdown,” he said.

With more establishments reopening in the city, Garganera said the EOC will focus on these since it is aware that transmissions can also happen in workplaces.

The approach the EOC has been using in the community to combat the spread of Covid-19 will also be used in the business sector, he said.

He said there are 30 barangays in the city that no longer have community transmissions.

Meanwhile, Garganera appealed to the business community to be transparent and to strictly implement health measures. (JJL)
