CEBU City recorded its lowest daily positivity rate for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in tests involving at least 1,000 individuals, on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021.

Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), said out of 1,039 individuals who underwent a swab test, only 14 tested positive for the Sars-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19, for a daily positivity rate (DPR) of 1.35 percent.

Since the start of the pandemic, this has been the lowest DPR recorded among the days when the number of people swabbed reached 1,000.

“But don’t be confident. Complacency is our number 1 enemy,” Garganera said.

He said everyone should support the City’s vaccination drive because the city is still far from reaching its desired target.

“We will have a better Christmas and New Year if everyone will be vaccinated,” he said.

Only 45.10 percent of Cebu City residents were fully vaccinated against Covid-19 as of Oct. 19.

Cebu City had just 311 active Covid-19 cases in the past 10 days, as 31 of the city’s 80 barangays had not reported any transmission in the past 14 days.

According to the EOC, there are only 12 patients in the Cebu City Quarantine Center, 50 in the barangay isolation centers and 46 in isolation in hotels.

In all, 41,010 people have been infected with Covid-19 in Cebu City, but 39,250 have fully recovered while 1,451 people have lost their lives. (PAC)
