Cebu Zontians reap awards

THE members of the Zonta Club of Cebu 2 reaped awards in the 20th Zonta International District 17 Conference in Hong Kong on October 5-7, 2019.

The club was honored for its innovative service and trailblazing endeavors for women and children in the community. It received the Best Centennial Local Service Project for its “Breakthrough Behind the Cells,” a series of medical missions that benefited female inmates at the Mandaue City Jail.

Since the founding of Zonta International in 1919, the Zontians have always been empowering women.

To celebrate their achievements, the Zonta clubs all over the globe were encouraged to undertake Zonta Centennial projects.

The Zonta Club of Cebu 2 also received the Best Centennial Advocacy Award for its “18-days of Activism,” a series of events where different stakeholders took part in symposia and workshops to come up with effective strategies on how to eliminate violence against women and encourage broad participation by emphasizing that every one has a role to play in protecting women.

The awards were presented to different Zonta clubs that accomplished district goals in areas such as advocacy, service and public relations.

The Zonta Club of Cebu 2 is an active member of District 17, which is composed of 76 clubs with 2,461 members from the Philippines, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and Macau.

The club was recognized with the Centennial Anniversary Honor for its “100 books for 100 Families” project, and for displaying at the Ayala Center Cebu a giant tarp printed with pictures of 100 women from various sectors in the community with a singular message: “Say No to Violence Against Women and to Say Yes to Gender Equality.”

It also got the Centennial Leadership Development Award and the top award that recognized the club’s overall contribution to the ideals of Zonta International in service, advocacy, education and leadership development, and it also took home the Centennial Star Club in Excellence Achievement Award–Diamond Category.
