Consolacion mayor to BBM: Cut down some gov't agencies, give more power to LGUs

CONSOLACION, Northern Cebu Mayor Teresa "Nene" Alegado is asking President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to cut down "irrelevant" government agencies whose services could hamper local government units (LGUs).

Alegado made the call just hours before Marcos is set to make his first State of the Nation Address (Sona).

In an interview on Monday morning, July 25, 2022, Alegado said she called for the cutting down of some government agencies as not only are they an additional expenditure to the national government but their services also hamper those being provided by LGUs.

She added that some services being offered by some government agencies can be done by LGUs.

"Many of our delivery services can be directly handed to our local government units (LGUs) from the Office of the President to the DBM (Department of Budget and Management). But some agencies tend to interfere. You cut that," Alegado added.

But Alegado has not divulged what government agencies she wants Marcos to remove.

Alegado hopes that Marcos will give LGUs enough power to provide relevant government services directly to their constituents rather than coursing them to national government agencies. (HIC)
