Council seeks interior department's help in SK row

THE Minglanilla Municipal Council wants to seek the help of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in resolving the complaint filed against the town’s newly elected Sangguniang Kabataan federation president by one of his chairpersons.

Admitting that it was the first time they encountered such a case, Minglanilla town councilors said they want to seek the DILG's opinion to ensure that they can make a sound and proper judgment on the complaint filed by Barangay Ward 1 SK chairperson Niño Justin Tecson against SK Federation President-elect John Jesson Gimenez.

Tecson earlier accused Gimenez of allegedly bringing 10 SK chairpersons to a beach party in Alcoy two days before the SK Federation elections took place.

The act is considered prohibited under the DILG’s guidelines on the conduct of the SK Federation elections.

In an interview, Minglanilla town councilor and lawyer Rajiv Enad told SunStar Cebu that while the DILG has yet to respond to their query, they have asked Gimenez to file a formal reply to Tecson’s allegations.

Enad, who formerly served as legal consultant for Mayor Elanito Peña, said that upon receiving Tecson’s complaint, the council immediately discussed it during their regular session last June 5.

Enad said DILG’s opinion on the matter could help guide them in resolving the complaint.

“This is the first time the Sanggunian encountered such a complaint since the passage of the SK Reform Law,” Enad said. (JKV/SunStar Cebu)
