Cuenco might return to council

FORMER Cebu City Councilor James Anthony Cuenco might be back in office a year after he was dismissed after the anti-graft office found him liable for serious dishonesty and grave misconduct.

In a phone interview, Cuenco said he was informed about the latest decision of the Court of Appeals, but he has yet to secure a copy of it.

“I’ve heard, but nothing is final really because I have yet to receive a copy of the decision,” he told SunStar Cebu.

Cuenco has scheduled a press conference on the matter tomorrow.

Last year, then Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales ordered the dismissal of Cuenco in relation to the implementation of the medicine assistance program funded by the Priority Development Assistance Fund of his father, former Cebu City South District congressman Antonio Cuenco.

The dismissal order also imposed perpetual disqualification that barred Cuenco from holding public office, which was served by the Department of the Interior and Local Government last year.

Cuenco then filed a petition for review. RVC
