INVESTMENT scams have been hogging the news recently, but there is one investment that truly benefits the people.

This is the investment of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in empowering people through its sustainable livelihood program (SLP).

SLP initiated the electric sikad project (esikad), a first in Cebu, according to SLP regional coordinator Rizalina Patindol.

On Wednesday, June 12, 2019, esikad units were given to the Cabecera de Argao-SLP Association. The turnover ceremony was DSWD’s way of celebrating Independence Day.

DSWD officials said the esikad units could help members of Cabecera de Argao in freeing themselves from dire economic situations.

Each 24 SLP participant received the eye-catching green esikad. Since the esikad is battery-charged, the driver does not have to pedal a lot.

Each esikad is equipped with a small garbage bin.

As part of the package, SLP participants were given uniforms and head gears.

They also attended lectures on personal hygiene and traffic rules.

“I am extremely happy that the association already received 24 units of esikad,” Patindol said.

For his part, Mayor Stanley Caminero reminded beneficiaries to take care of the units, to be respectful to passengers and to maintain proper hygiene.

He also thanked the DSWD for the opportunity given to his fellow Argaoanons. (S)
