AN ENHANCED community quarantine (ECQ) checkpoint volunteer from Sitio Lawis, Brgy. Mambaling, Cebu City, was declared dead on arrival at a hospital on Monday, May 25, 2020.

The victim was mauled by an unknown assailant who allegedly broke into his home.

Police Corporal Noel Timagos of the Mambaling Police Station identified the victim as alias Agu, a resident of the barangay and a volunteer at the ECQ checkpoint in the said sitio.

Timagos said it was found out during their investigation that Agu was not known in his area because he had no relatives.

Timagos said they were able to get information from two minors on the incident. The two heard Agu crying for help at past 12 a.m. on May 25.

“The witnesses assumed that the victim was being beaten based on the sounds they heard from the house,” said Timagos.

They waited for the commotion to stop before checking the place out. When they got there, the door was unlocked and they found Agu lying on the floor, covered in his own blood. They then decided to report what they had seen.

The Mambaling police are still trying to find out Agu’s real name, as well as those of the

possible suspects. (BBT, CCP)
