A FORMER municipal councilor and current village chief was ambushed, while another was hurt by unidentified men in front of a cement manufacturing plant in Barangay South Poblacion, San Fernando, Cebu Wednesday evening, January 16.

Barangay Magsico chief Johnny Arriesgado is the second government official from San Fernando town killed by unidentified assailants this month.

Senior Inspector Lymel Pasquin, San Fernando police chief, told SunStar Cebu that Arriesgado was reportedly driving his multicab when unidentified men onboard a motorcycle suddenly shot him several times while he was passing the Taiheiyo Cement Plant in Barangay South Poblacion at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 16.

Pasquin said a civilian was also hurt during the ambush. Police are still trying to determine his identity.

After sustaining several gunshot wounds, Arriesgado reportedly swerved his vehicle toward a ditch beside the road.

Arriesgado was immediately brought to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Two years ago, Arriesgado was arrested by operatives of the Regional Special Operations Group during separate raids in San Fernando.

While Arriesgado was accused of being an illegal drug protector, police only found firearms and ammunition on his person during the raid.

Arriesgado was formerly the Association of Barangay Councils president of San Fernando and sits as an ex-officio member of the municipal council. (AYB of Superbalita Cebu/JKV)
