THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has a new director.

Former Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG 7) director Col. Ireneo Dalogdog formally took over from Col. Ernesto Salvador Tagle during a turnover of command ceremony at the conference room of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7) on Monday morning, Oct. 3, 2022.

Tagle has been temporarily assigned at the office of PRO 7 Director Brig. Gen. Roque Eduardo Vega, while he awaits his new assignment.

Dalogdog welcomed his new appointment and admitted that it is a big challenge to be the police chief of Cebu City, which he considered to be the center of Central Visayas.

He also said he will continue Tagle’s programs.

“We will continue to root out and punish abusive personnel and personnel who are involved in irregularities, while we reward those with good accomplishments,” Dalogdog said in Cebuano.

During his six-month stint as CCPO director, Tagle oversaw security during the local and national elections in May, intensified campaigns against illegal drugs, illegal gambling and loose firearms and went after most wanted persons, among others.

He was following the directive of Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., who ordered police chiefs to renew campaigns against criminality, particularly illegal drugs, as well as intensify internal cleansing to get rid of scalawag cops.

According to police records, illegal drugs worth P255.2 million were seized between Jan. 1, 2022 and Sept. 30.

Meanwhile, Vega lauded Tagle for the latter’s many accomplishments in such a short period of time.

Vega also said he trusts Dalogdog to be up to the job and hopes the latter will be successful in implementing various programs.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama announced last week that Dalogdog was his pick to replace Tagle as CCPO director.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, Camp Crame issued a memorandum assigning Dalogdog to head the CCPO. (PJB)

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
